Pinheiros Altos Golf Course
Almancil, Algarve · Designed by Ronald Fream (1992) · Est. 1992
Pinheiros Altos — "tall pines" — sits within the exclusive Quinta do Lago estate and offers 27 holes of pretty, well-conditioned golf across three nines: Pinhal, Olival and Corte. Designed by Ronald Fream and opened in 1992, it threads through mature umbrella pines, olive groves and the lagoons of the Ria Formosa, with the different nines giving contrasting character across a round.
The combined 18s play to around par 72, and while it is less severe than its championship neighbours, it is a thoroughly enjoyable and scenic test, with water in play on several holes and greens kept in excellent order. Its position within Quinta do Lago means it shares the same beautiful lagoon-side setting and upmarket atmosphere for a friendlier green fee.
With a boutique hotel on site and easy access to all of Quinta do Lago's amenities, Pinheiros Altos is a relaxed, rewarding round in one of the Algarve's best neighbourhoods.
Holes worth knowing
- 1The lagoon holes — where the course meets the edge of the Ria Formosa, the water and birdlife give the prettiest moments of the round.
- 2The three-nine variety — Pinhal, Olival and Corte each have their own character, so the combination you play changes the test.
