Blairgowrie, Perthshire · Designed by James Braid (1934); revised by Alister MacKenzie · Est. 1934
The Rosemount Course at Blairgowrie is one of the loveliest inland courses in Britain — a serene, beautifully wooded heathland laid out through majestic Scots pine, silver birch and heather in the Perthshire countryside north of Perth. James Braid created the modern layout in 1934, with earlier input from Alister MacKenzie, and the result is a peaceful, parkland-heathland idyll quite different from Scotland's famous links.
At par 72 over around 6,600 yards, its fairways are cut like corridors through the tall pines, each hole framed and secluded, with springy heathland turf and superb, subtly contoured greens. There is no wind off the sea here — the challenge is position, patience and the trees — and few settings in golf are more tranquil or more beautiful, especially when the heather is in bloom.
With a second 18 (the Lansdowne) and a nine-hole course on site, Blairgowrie is a wonderful, well-priced inland base and the perfect change of pace on a Scottish tour.
Holes worth knowing
- 16th "Wee Bogle" (par-3) — a beautiful short hole framed by pine and heather, the emblem of Rosemount's serene charm.
- 2The pine-corridor holes — each fairway is cut secluded through tall Scots pine and birch, making position off the tee everything.

Good to know
- →Rosemount is a James Braid heathland (with earlier Alister MacKenzie input) — a tranquil, tree-lined idyll and a lovely contrast to Scotland's links.
- →The challenge is the trees and position, not the wind — leave the driver in the bag on the tight pine holes.
- →There are two 18s (Rosemount and Lansdowne) and a nine-holer on site, so it makes a fine, well-priced inland base for a day or two.
- →It is glorious when the heather blooms in late summer; the Perthshire countryside and the whisky of the Highland Perthshire are close.
- →Blairgowrie pairs naturally with Gleneagles for an inland Perthshire leg between the Fife and Highland links.
