The Old Links is the elder of Ballyliffin's two championship courses, laid out across rumpled duneland on the Inishowen peninsula in the far north of Donegal, with the distinctive Glashedy Rock offshore. Nick Faldo, who once tried to buy the place, refined it in 2006, but its character is unchanged: a natural, tumbling links where barely a fairway sits flat and the ground game is everything. Nick Faldo famously called Ballyliffin the most natural links he had ever seen.
Where its younger sibling the Glashedy Links is the bigger, more modern test, the Old Links is the quirkier, more characterful round - shorter, funkier, and beloved by those who like their links rugged and old-fashioned. Between the two, Ballyliffin is one of the great two-course links destinations in Ireland, and among the most remote and rewarding.
