Narin & Portnoo Golf Club
Portnoo, Co. Donegal · Designed by Founded 1930; restored with Gil Hanse (2020) · Est. 1930
Why this Edge Score: A Donegal links above Narin beach, transformed by a 2020 restoration guided by Gil Hanse into one of the most improved courses in Ireland. Wild, natural and remote, it delivers genuine links drama at a bargain green fee.
Narin & Portnoo sits on a spit of duneland above the beach at Narin, on Donegal's south-west coast near Ardara. A links since 1930, it was transformed by a member-led restoration completed in 2020 with guidance from the renowned architect Gil Hanse, who lengthened and re-routed it to make far better use of the wild ground along the shore. The reworked links has been widely acclaimed as one of the most improved courses in Ireland.
The result is a natural, thrilling round through big dunes with the Atlantic never far away, at a green fee that remains a fraction of what such quality usually costs. Remote even by Donegal standards, it rewards the drive with genuine links drama and a warm welcome.
