Cardigan, Ceredigion · Designed by Founded 1895 · Est. 1895
Cardigan is a wonderful, wind-swept clifftop links high above the Teifi estuary at Gwbert, on the beautiful Ceredigion coast of west Wales. Founded in 1895, it occupies a spectacular perch overlooking Cardigan Bay and Poppit Sands, with panoramic sea views from almost every hole and — on the right day — dolphins in the bay below.
At par 72 over around 6,400 yards, it is the longest course in west Wales and a genuine, breezy links test, its firm fairways and excellent greens (open 364 days a year, never on temporaries) framed by the ever-present Atlantic wind. The closing four holes, running along the cliff edge, are the memorable finish. It is one of the best-value quality links anywhere in Britain, with green fees a fraction of the famous names.
Remote, scenic and warmly welcoming, Cardigan is exactly the kind of course that rewards the traveller who ventures off the beaten track in Wales.
Holes worth knowing
- 1The closing four — running along the cliff edge high above the bay, they are a thrilling, wind-blown finish with the sea always in view.
- 2The estuary holes — perched above the Teifi and Poppit Sands, with panoramic Cardigan Bay views and, often, dolphins below.

Good to know
- →Cardigan is a hidden-gem links — quality clifftop golf with huge sea views for a green fee a fraction of the famous names.
- →The last four holes along the cliff are the ones you will remember; save something for the wind-blown finish.
- →Cardigan Bay is one of the best places in Britain to spot bottlenose dolphins — scan the water from the high holes.
- →The Teifi estuary, Poppit Sands and the start of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are right here for a non-golf day.
- →It is remote west Wales, so make a trip of it — pair it with Tenby and the Pembrokeshire coast to the south.
