Vale of Llangollen Golf Club
Llangollen, Denbighshire · Designed by Founded 1908 · Est. 1908
The Vale of Llangollen is one of the most scenically situated parkland courses in Wales, laid out along the floor of the Dee valley beneath the wooded hills and the ruined Castell Dinas Brân above the pretty town of Llangollen. The River Dee winds alongside and through the course, and the surrounding hills give a sense of drama and enclosure that lifts every round.
Founded in 1908 and much improved over the years, it plays to par 72 over around 6,500 yards — a well-conditioned, mature parkland with excellent greens, some testing holes along the river, and that constant backdrop of Dee Valley scenery. It is a proper members' course that has hosted Welsh national events, yet remains welcoming and well-priced.
With Llangollen's steam railway, canal boats and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct all close by, it is a delightful base for a scenic corner of north-east Wales. The River Dee is the constant companion, winding through the lower holes and framing the round beneath the wooded hills and the ruined 13th-century Castell Dinas Brân on its crag above the town. It is a mature, well-conditioned members’ course that has hosted Welsh national events, and the setting — with the heritage steam railway and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct nearby — makes it one of the prettiest inland rounds in Wales.
Holes worth knowing
- 1The riverside holes — the Dee winds through the course, bringing water into play and framing the round with valley scenery.
- 2The valley setting — enclosed by wooded hills and overlooked by the ruined Castell Dinas Brân, few Welsh parklands are prettier.
